China will host the Asia Rugby women’s sevens qualification tournament for The Games Of The XXXII Olympiad this weekend.
With eight of the top Asian teams competing for a spot alongside Japan as Asia’s representatives, the competition on 9-10 November at the Guangzhou University Town Sports Centre Stadium is set to be a thriller.
There are also places available at the global repechage but for the winner, they are guaranteed to play on the world’s biggest stage in Tokyo next year.
In Pool A hosts China will be one of the favorites with World Rugby core team experience but will be joined by Hong Kong, Sri lanka and Korea – all of whom are capable of upsets on their day.
In Pool B Kazakhstan will face Thailand Singapore and the Philippines.
Rugby sevens will make its second appearance in the Olympic Games following its successful introduction at the Rio 2016 Olympics which saw its fan-base increase by almost 17 million in six key territories (Nielsen).

Asia Rugby General Manager Ross Mitchell said: “We are keenly looking forward to these qualifiers which feature our best teams in the Region in competition with each other to see who gets to represent Asia in the next Olympics in Tokyo
“There are quite a few unions that fancy their chances at winning our Qualifier and the competition is going to be fierce.”

The men’s qualifiers will be hosted by Korea Rugby Union In Incheon South Korea on the 23rd to the 24th of November
