Trophy Tour Malaysia, The coveted Webb Ellis Cup was in Malaysia recently as part of the 2019 Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour.
It was indeed a special occasion for rugby fans and players as they took the opportunity to have a closer look at the trophy that was lifted by the All Blacks in 2015. It was a rare and special privilege for the Malaysian rugby fans who got to witness the Cup in their own backyard.
The five-day promotional tour started with the Acting Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Acting King) Sultan Nazrin Muizzudin Shah who is the patron for Malaysia Rugby gracing a dinner hosted by the Malaysia Rugby Union.
A series of events also included its visit to the schools Competition where almost 5000 students were given opportunity to be up close and personal with the trophy. The social media rugby community was flooded with pictures of the trophy showed how excited the rugby community was with its presence.
The trophy didn’t miss out on an opportunity to visit the KLCC Twin Towers either, as well as the famous Putrajaya Square after which representatives of World Rugby and DHL presented Get Into Rugby kit to schools in Putrajaya.
Local rugby clubs also joined the tour by organizing grassroot tournaments over the weekend in Klang valley. With huge interest among players and parents, Malaysia is certainly on the right track for growth in rugby.
