Rugby In Nepal, Situated 28km north of Kathmandu Valley sit Nepal Police Higher Secondary School, also known as the star factory.
With 60 boys and 60 girls playing rugby continuously throughout the year it is no surprise they won the U14 national title this year.
It is this school that also produced Nepal Rugby’s first national sevens captain Nabin Giri.
Giri captained Nepal men’s Sevens team in 2016 and 2017 in an Asia Rugby Development Sevens competition and has since moved on to study and play club rugby in Japan for the Tokyo Crusaders RFC Club.
Head coach of Nepal Police Higher Secondary School Mr. Bijay Karki has been putting in a structured coaching programme in the school and he hopes that the school will produce another national captain in the future.
Vice Principal Mr. Hem Chand attended the training session and has expressed his satisfaction with the young players’ progress. He also informed NRA that a rugby programme will be included in the school’s annual calendar to give more players the opportunity to play competitively.
“We are also planning to host tournaments and invite neighbouring schools to play here regularly,” said Chand.

Further good news for Nepal Rugby Association came from NRA President Mr. Tanka Lal Ghising when he informed that Nepal Rugby Commission has recently formed. The formation of the Schools Rugby Commission will unify all schools rugby activities and will provide more competitive playing opportunities for children across the country.
NRA is preparing for the Rugby World Cup Trophy tour later this year and is planning Get Into Rugby festivals to celebrate the William Webb Ellis trophy visiting the country.
