Korea Rugby Union (KRU) continued their local medical education programme, started in 2016, by hosting a World Rugby FAIR course on 15th March 2018. Hosting the course at a venue in the Olympic Park in Seoul, was also a timely reminder to all those attending that rugby has now become part of the Olympic family.
The course was delivered by local medical educators Byun Woojin and Tana Oh Yun Seok. World Rugby assisted the KRU by providing a full set of FAIR training equipment. This equipment and having local World Rugby accredited medical educators enables KRU to continue to run the courses independently, which is part of World Rugby & Asia Rugby’s plans to help Unions towards self-sustainability.
The course also provided the opportunity for sports trainers attending the course to work with Dr Kim Younghwan, the newly appointed KRU Match Day Doctor for the #ARC2018 matches and complete the first step to building the trainers skills, enabling them to be part of the pitchside team for the upcoming Asia Rugby Championship matches.
An additional boost to the course were the visits by Oh Kyeongjoong , Executive Director and KRU staff members, who were on site to meet participants and reinforce KRU‘s support for medical education at all levels of the game as part of the KRU’s player welfare commitment.
