Women’s Trophy provides pathway for Asia teams in Brunei

The Asia Rugby Women’s Sevens Trophy will take place on October 20-21 in Brunei, with 10 teams competing in the annual competition.

With a place on the main series up for grabs, all 10 teams will be looking to be a part of the top sevens competition in 2019 and play a part in Olympic qualification.

Asia Rugby Women’s Sevens Trophy

Last year South Korea beat India 29-0 in the final in Laos to qualify for the series and this year
The tournament starts at 09:30 local time on 20 October as hosts Brunei take on last year’s hosts Laos. Both sides are joined in Pool A by Indonesia, Malaysia and Guam.

Pool B will be headed up by India and they will play Pakistan, Nepal, the Philippines, and Uzbekistan.
Last year Pakistan made their international debut and finished sixth, beating Nepal 17-7 to record their first-ever women’s international win.

Asia Rugby and World Rugby Council member Ada Milby is looking forward to the tournament.

“The Asia Rugby Women’s Sevens Trophy is a significant part of our development in the women’s game and also an important part of the pathway for the teams.

“They will all gain invaluable experience and have a chance to join the series in 2019 and I know all the teams are excited by this opportunity, as all of us at Asia Rugby are.”

All matches will be available live on Asia Rugby’s Facebook page as the tournament will be streamed live.
