Asia Rugby Championship Division 3 West

Qatar triumph in ARC Division III West

6 April, 2019 in Asia Rugby Championship by Asia Rugby

Qatar beat Lebanon 13-10 in an enthralling winner-takes-all final of the Asia Rugby Championship Division 3 West in Doha.

The win puts an end to Lebanon’s recent success in the competition having won the previous two tournaments in 2017 and 2018.

The star of the show was undoubtedly Bader Bakaddouri who got the hosts off to a flying start with his fifth try of the tournament.

Both sides came into the final match off the back of emphatic wins over Jordan and this match was always going to be hard fought.

Mounir Finan and Tannous Ferris hit back for Lebanon with a try apiece but two missed conversations eventually proved costly.

Lebanon led 10-7 at the break, before Brook Tremayne levelled the scores with a penalty in the closing stages before holding his nerve once more to kick a second penalty with just minutes remaining of the match.

When the full-time whistle blew celebrations with both players, coaches and all the home fans continued on the pitch in a historic moment for Qatar Rugby.
